This page tells you what this site collects, why we collect it, and who else gets it. We use plain words. We only say what the site really does. If we are not sure about something, we say so.

Who we are

This site is run by Neural Edge Publishing (NEP). NEP is a small, independent true-crime imprint. Our author name is Cassian Creed.

What we collect, and why

  • Your email address, if you sign up. You type it into a form that belongs to Beehiiv, our newsletter service. We use it to send you the guide or the updates you asked for. The code on our site cannot see what you type into that form. The court-date alert form may also ask which cases you want to follow.
  • Where you signed up. Our sign-up forms carry tags, such as the page you were on and the name of the offer. Beehiiv may save these with your sign-up. We use them to learn which pages help readers.
  • Visit data. We use Google Analytics to count visits. It records the pages you view. It records the buttons you click, such as sign-up, store and court-alert buttons. It records how you got here, for example from a social post or a podcast link. It also records your device type, your browser, and your rough location, such as your country or city. We do not link this data to your name or email address.
  • Messages you send us. If you email us, we get your email address and what you write. We use it to answer you. The “Spot an error? Report it” link at the bottom of each page just opens your own email app. It is not a form.
  • Purchases. Our books and guides are sold on Beehiiv’s store pages, not on this site. Beehiiv uses Stripe to take payments. We do not collect your card number on this site. Beehiiv may share order details with us, such as your email address and what you bought.
  • Hosting records. Netlify hosts this site. Like any web host, it handles your IP address and the pages you ask for, so it can send you the site. Netlify’s privacy page says what it keeps. We cannot see that from our own code.

This site shows no ads. This site has no ad pixels, such as a Meta or TikTok pixel.

Who else gets your data

When your browser loads content from these companies, they can see things like your IP address and browser type. They have their own rules. We do not control them. Here is who they are and where to read their rules.

Some pages link to other sites, such as X, TikTok and book stores. Those sites only get your data if you click through. Their rules apply there.

Cookies and saved notes

Our own site code does not set cookies. But other companies’ tools do:

  • Google Analytics normally sets cookies. Their names start with _ga. They help Google tell one visitor from another. We do not turn this off.
  • Beehiiv, Spotify and YouTube may also set cookies when their parts of a page load.

We do not show a cookie pop-up. We do not ask first. Analytics start when a page loads on our live site.

Our site also saves a few small notes in your browser. They are not cookies:

  • How you got here. If you arrive from a link with campaign tags (for example, from a podcast), we save those tags and the page you landed on. They are kept only while that browser tab is open. We use them to credit your sign-up to the right source. We also pass them to Beehiiv with the sign-up form.
  • Sign-up in progress. When you click a sign-up link, we save a short note on your device. It names the page, the form and the offer. We only use it if you finish signing up within 30 minutes.
  • Last visit date. On the What Changed page, we save the date of the newest change you saw. That lets the page show what is new. It stays on your device. We do not send it anywhere.
  • Testing flag. Only if you open a link with ?nep=internal. It marks the visit as ours in Google Analytics.

How to opt out of analytics

You can still read the site if you do any of these.

Do Not Track (California note)

Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. California law asks us to say how we respond to it.

Here is our answer: this site does not read that signal. Google Analytics runs the same way whether or not your browser sends it. The site also does not read a “Global Privacy Control” signal.

The companies in the list above may collect data about your visits to this site and to other sites. We do not control that. Use the opt-out steps above if you want to limit it.

How to unsubscribe

Every newsletter email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click it and those emails stop. You can also email us at cassiancreed@cassiancreed.com and ask us to take you off the list.

How to see or delete your data

Anyone can ask, no matter where you live. Email cassiancreed@cassiancreed.com. Write from the address you used to sign up. Tell us what you want: a copy of what we hold, a fix, or deletion.

  • We can look up and remove your record in our Beehiiv list.
  • We may need to check that the request is really from you.
  • Our analytics are not tied to your name or email. So we usually cannot find one visitor’s record.
  • Data held by Google, Spotify, Stripe and the others above is theirs. Use their privacy pages to ask them.

Children

This site is not for children under 13. It covers true-crime cases. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child gave us their email address, write to us and we will delete it.

When we change this page

When we change this page, we change the “Last updated” date at the top. Please check back now and then. If a change is big, we will say so at the top of this page.
