Case Files

This Week in Court: November 9–13, 2026

A note before you read: this is a true account of real people and a real crime. We tell it with care — centered on the victims, grounded in the record, and without gratuitous detail.

Status as of November 5, 2026, 9:30 a.m. PT. Three trials go on, and one jury may already be deciding when the week starts. There are also hearings in Utah, Colorado and South Carolina. Here is who, when, and what to watch.

One of these cases involves the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby. All times are local court time, with Pacific time next to them. Courts can change dates and times at any time. Check the Court Calendar before you tune in. We list a livestream only when a court or network confirms one, so none are listed here.

All week — Matthew Farwell trial, jury may be deciding (Boston, federal court)

Time: Closing arguments are Friday, Nov. 6. The court’s notes say court starts at 8:45 a.m. ET (5:45 a.m. PT); Boston.com reports jurors return at 10:00 a.m. ET (7:00 a.m. PT). After that, the jury decides. No one knows how long that will take.

This trial is about the 2021 death of Sandra Birchmore, 23, who was pregnant. Matthew Farwell, a former Stoughton, Massachusetts, police detective, is charged with killing a witness and killing a child in utero. He has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent. The defense rested on Nov. 4. Farwell chose not to testify. That is his right, and it is not evidence of guilt. On Nov. 2, Chief Judge Denise J. Casper denied a defense request to acquit him before the jury decides, the court record shows.

What to watch: Whether the jury reaches a verdict, and when.
